The vision team is a small group of volunteers that travel to rural schools in the area around Siguetepeque, Honduras. You do not need specialized training to join the team, but speaking Spanish well is helpful. The team needs people to operate the spot screener, to accurately record the results of each screening, help order any needed glasses and to help children wait patiently for their turn.
The goal is to provide visual screening and free glasses for the school children in the remote areas of Siguatepeque. Each child is tested with a Welch Allen Spot Screener to determine if glasses are needed. Using that information, glasses are ordered in the United States, shipped to Honduras, and given to the children. In 2019, we provided 275 pairs of glasses to children to enhance their vision and their sweet, precious lives.
