Honduras Veterinary-Public Health Ministry - 2017
"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much."
                                                                               -Helen Keller

It was my privilege again this year to join the Veterinary-Public Health Ministry to Honduras. Being a part of this amazing team is a transformational experience and I am honored to convey to you what an incredible impact we have made, together, in the lives of the Honduran people and their animals.

Working alongside my fellow Merck Animal Health colleagues in this capacity has enriched both my personal and professional life. It has provided me with an amazing opportunity to raise awareness about the world around us and, hopefully, inspire others to discover the ways in which they can help. I have taken my first steps into a lifelong journey of mission work to do my small part in aiding those less fortunate. Through volunteering, we all have the chance to merge our skills and our passions for the betterment of the global community.

During our time in this beautiful country, we vaccinated and treated 5,200 animals and the public health team performed vision testing on over 600 school age children. The gratitude and appreciation expressed to us by the Honduran people was heartwarming. The collaboration between the mission group and the local organizers was a true demonstration of the love and caring which exists everywhere in our world, but is often overlooked. Within each of us lies the power to foster that love for our fellow man and for the animals with whom we share this precious planet.

Every day on the news, we are confronted with the harsh realities of war, famine, natural disasters and terrorism. This is far from the whole story of our world. In every place and in every corner of every country, goodness, compassion and love exist. It is that love we must all embrace. Become an ambassador and be the positive change you want to see in this world.

Thank you for making this mission possible. We are truly grateful for the vaccines donated by Merck Animal Health and for the contributions of other corporations and sponsors including: Bayer S.A. Animal Health, Colorado Serum Co., Merial Ltd., Elanco Animal Health, Performance Products Co., Vedco, Inc.; Virbac Corporation, the Lions Club of New Braunfels, and the organizational support of the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas and Café Cohorsil of Siguatepeque, Honduras.

We are all united in global health and well-being and your gifts have reached a world away. Together, we will continue to uplift others and, in turn, give ourselves a priceless gift of love.
Warm regards,
Kristina Lombardo
